  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp melted butter (for brushing after baking)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Activate the Yeast

  • In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast.
  • Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Make the Dough

  • Add the egg and mix well.
  • Add the flour and salt.
  • Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Add the softened butter and continue mixing until incorporated.

3. Knead

  • Knead by hand for 10–12 minutes, or with a stand mixer for 8 minutes, until the dough is smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky.

4. First Rise

  • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl.
  • Cover with a towel or plastic wrap.
  • Let rise for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.

5. Shape the Rolls

  • Punch down the dough.
  • Divide into 10–12 equal pieces.
  • Shape each into a smooth oval roll.
  • Place on a parchment-lined baking tray.

6. Score the Rolls

  • Using a sharp knife, make several shallow diagonal cuts across the top of each roll as shown in the image.

7. Second Rise

  • Cover loosely.
  • Let rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

8. Brush

  • Beat together the egg and milk.
  • Brush the tops evenly with the egg wash.

9. Bake

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the tops are deep golden brown.

10. Finish

  • Brush the warm rolls with melted butter for an extra soft, shiny finish.
  • Cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

💡 Tips

  • Use bread flour for extra fluffy rolls.
  • Don’t add too much flour during kneading—the dough should remain soft.
  • For an even softer texture, replace 2 tablespoons of the milk with heavy cream.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
